Finding all the teeny tiny little differences between England and America is a frustrating and also and interesting thing, it always hard to state what the differences are - as they sound so insignifcant - but there are many of thema dnf inding your way through them to, for example, bake a cake can be a nightmare of a state of affairs! Case in point - SUGAR!!!
At home in good old blightly they all have a different name!!
UK Name US Name
Caster Sugar = Superfine Suar
Icing Sugar = Confectioners Sugar
Demerera Sugar = Turbinado
There will be more as I learn - it is SOOO confusing!! We did have a lovely sugar incident over Christmas. On Boxing Day we had friends and family come over for a meal, afterwards we were chatting offer Cheese and Wine and eventually Coffee. Hubby kindly made the coffee and as the sugar pot was empty found a new packet in the larder. He filled the sugar bowl and the evening went on.... later one of my freinds politely asked what the interesting sugar was. I don't often take sugar in my coffee so had a look to see - it looked just like demerera sugar. But it had not dissolved in her drink. Turns out all our guests had been politely drinking tea and coffee with Brown Bulgar Wheat in it - it does look a lot like Demerera - but be warned. And if anyone ever asks you if you want wheat in your tea - you'll know where it came from!

Just discovered another name for caster sugar over here seems to be Bakers Sugar. Found at Fresh and Easy!
